Gallowhur 42 of Reading and New York, has withdrawn divorce proceedings against his wife, Nackey Scripps Gallowhur, 26, WIndsor county clerk George Brockway said today. Gallowhur had previously withdrawn a $150,000 alienation of affections suits against William Loeb, New Hampshire and Vermont publisher. A cross action against Gallowhur by his wife is still pending. She claims her husband spent $342,000 of her money. She is related to the Scripps family of the Scripps-Howard newspaper chain. Loeb publishes the Burlington Daily News and St. Albans Messenger and the New Hampshire Morning Union, Manchester NH Evening Leader and the New Hampshire Sunday News. Gallowhur is president of the Gallowhur Chemical Comany of New York. (Nov 1949) The Lowell Sun (Lowell, Massachusetts) > 1949 > November > 15 Woodstock Vt. Nov 15 (UP) -- Mrs. George W. Gallowhur was granted a divorce from her husband yesterday by Windsor County court on grounds of "intolerable severity." Mrs. Gallowhur is the former Nackey E. Scripps, granddaughter of the late newspaper publisher E.W. Scripps. Her husband, whom she wed October 27, 1944, is head of the Gallowhur Chemical Co. of New York. The divorce decree will become effective Dec. 1 though the normal process in such cases in Vermont is six months. The care, custody, control maintenance and education of the couple's four year old daughter Nackey was granted to Mrs. Gallowhur. However, her former husband was given the right to visit the child at "reasonable times and places." The couple previously had filed a stipulation concerning their real and personal property. The court following that stipulation but not one concerning the custody of the daughter. MRs. Gallowhur's divorce suit was heard last Oct 31 before Judge Paul A. Chase. It was, in effect, an uncontested divorce case when Gallowhur's attorney failed to question her on the witness stand. Judge Chase waived the normal six-month wait under Vermont law in divorce cases involving a minor child Gallowhur recently withdrew a $150,000 alientation of affections suits against William Loes [sic Loeb], Vermont and New Hampshire publisher. Today's decision prohibits Gallowhur from remarrying in Vermont within two years or living there if he remarries elsewhere. However, he can petition the court ot have the two-year period shortened.
