Ellis, 1876 Page 53 THE DAY FAMILY JOSEPH DAY was the son of Robert Day, who lived in the south part of Greenfield [NH]. He was b. in Andover, Mass., Sept. 19, 1777; m. Esther Tuel. After marriage he moved to Vermont. She was the mother of his six children. Mr. Day removed to Peterborough in 1823, and bought and occupied the place on Which John H. Holt now lives, until 1843, when he removed to Bennington, where he d. June 1850, ae. 72 yrs, 8 mos; 1st wife died at Antrim NH, 1829; he m2d, Widow Peavey. Children: 1. Joseph, b. Sept 19, 1801; d. in Georgia 1841 2. Esther, b. Dec 21, 1803; m. --; d. 1872 ae. 68 yrs 3. Mary, b. March 1, 1805; d. July 1829, ae 24 yrs, 4. mos. 4. +Robert, b. Washington, Nov 23, 1807; m. Lydia N. Carr. 5. Henry Payson, b. Rindge NH, April 8, 1812; d. 1815 6. George F., b Feb 16, 1816, d. young Robert Day, so of the above Joseph Day, came to town with his father's family in 1823; was trained to the cabinet-making trade. Commenced business in 1832, having bought the shop of Moses Dodge, situated near to the North Factory; m. Lydia N. Carr, Dec. 4, 1832. He sold his property in town, and removed to North Branch, Antrim, NH, April 1874, where he now resides. Children: 1. German, b. April 17, 1834; m. Hannah Forbush, Oct. 10, 1861; one ch, Katie H. 2. Edwin, b. July 5, 1836; now lives in Exeter [NH]; of firm of Hobbs & Day, photographic artists. 3. Mary, b. Sept. 8, 1838; m. Samuel S. Sawyer, of Antrim NH, May 15, 1861. 4. Louisa b. Feb 9, 1841; m. Horace Gowing, July 13, 1869; resided in Wakefield MA. 5. Harry, b. Jan 21, 1845; d. of consumption Aug 17, 1867, ae 22 yrs 6 mos. (end)
