Child, June 1886, page 553, Town of Monroe Bethuel Turner came to Lyman, now Monroe, about or soon after 1800, and located upon the farm now owned by Anson Johnson, on road 5, where he resided until his death in 1812. His son Jesse was born here in 1797 and lived here until his death in 1870. His widow, Lucina M., survives him. Two of his children reside in this county, Mrs. Anson Johnson, of this town, and Mrs. Julia M. Co., 1923 page 656 TURNER Several families bearing this name settled in different towns of Grafton Co. soon after the Revolutionary War, and others in Washington Co. VT, whose ancestors could probably be traced back to John TUrner who came to Roxbury, Mass. before 1656, or to Humphrey Turner, who came to Plymouth, Mass in 1628. Descendants of each of these families settled in Connecticut, and their children were pioneers in many towns as far north as Colebrook, N.H. James Turner, a grandson of Samuel Turner of Bernardstown, Mass., was an early settler of Bethlehem N.H. Hiram N. Turner, long superintendent of the scale factory at St. Johnsbury, was a grandson of James. In the Grafton Registry there is a curious deed dated Nov. 23, 1795, to John and James Turner of Bethlehem, "a town so called by its inhabitants." Bethuel Turner, supposed to be related to this John and James Turner of Bethlehem and his wife Bede, were among the first settlers of Lyman, N.H. (now Monroe). They had five sons, James, Jesse, Bethuel, Linas and Jerry, and one daughter, Lois. She m. Dec. 16, 1824 Earl Barney, a brother of Susan Barney, who m. her brother James. They settled in Kirby, Vt., where their children, a son and three daughters, were born. One son, Austin Barney was quite a prominent man in his day. Bethuel Turner, d. March 22, 1812, aged 52 years. His widow m. again and d. in Bath N.H. James Turner, b. ab 1787; m. Nov 5, 1813 by family record, town record, Nov 5, 1812, Susan Barney, who came, perhaps, from Springfield, Vt. He d. Feb. 24, 1849, aged 61 years. She d. Feb 18, 1871, aged 82 years; buried at North Monroe. Children: 1. James H., b. Nov 5, 1814; d. Feb 1883; an invalid all his life, living on the home farm with his brother Alden. 2. Harry, b. 1816. Worked in the South before the Civil War as a slave-driver; settled in Medora IL after the war; became wealthy and reared a large family. A granddaughter, Miss Grace E. Hooper of Crete, Neb. became noted as National Secretary of the Christian Endeavor Union. 3. Betsey, m. George Parker of Lisbon N.H.; lived in Lisbon and St. Johnsbury Vt. Had two daughters, Helen and Ella. Helen m. Frank Sanborn [rest unreadable]. page 647 ------(unreadable) 14, 1879, aged 48 years and 9 month; she d. Oct 29 1889, aged 59 years and 2 months. Children: 1. Eleanor, b. Feb 19, 1857; m. Charles F. Chase of McIndoes, q.v. 2. Martin E., b. Jan. 12, 1871; thrown on his own resources at the age of 10; lived with John Buffum several years; worked for the COnnecticut Valley Lumber Co.; m. Jan 1, 1896 Lizzie, dau of Thomas M. Nelson of Monroe [NH]; carried on the Nelson farm two years; rem. to McIndoes in 1897; engaged in the meat business successfully seven years; sold out to the Gochee Brothers and bought the Hazen Ford farm south of Barnet village; bought the land to high state of fertility, erected modern buildings and engaged extensively in handling live-stock lumber and hay; held various minor town offices. 3. Angie R., b. Oct 11 1873; m. at Newport, N.H. Dr. Enos W. Moore, a dentist in practice there several years, then in Malden, Mass., where they now reside. Children: (1) Howard C. Moore, b. Sept. 24, 1904. In Malden High School; entered Dartmouth College 1922; (2) Helen L. Moore, b. Oct 7, 1910. Jesse Turner, brother to Bethuel and James, lived in Monroe; m. Lucinda, dau of John Buffum, who d. Jan 7, 1801, aged 99 years 8 months. She had read the Bible through every year for the 40 years before her death. She d. Sept. 8, 1870. Several children buried at North Monroe. Their dau Julia m. Robert Moore of Littleton, N.H.; d. July 30, 1893, aged 63 years, 6 months, leaving several children. Another dau, Joanna, lived and died in Monroe; m. Anson Johnson. Several children d. young. Their dau Hattie m. Sherburn Lang of Monroe, now of Lyndonville. She d. Aug. 4, 1888, aged 27 years, leaving several children; two now living: Edward of Lyndonville and Lucinda, who m. Wm. Roy of Monroe. BETHUEL TURNER JR., brother of James and Jesse, m1st, Zylhpia -- who d. May 2, 1851, aged 29 years. He m2nd, Mary (Bean) widow of John Bonnett (see Gammell family). He died Aug 17, 1872, aged 66 years. She m. 3rd Trueworthy Parker of Monroe, who had had 21 children by two former marriages. Mrs. Parker d. in Littleton, July 27, 1894, aged 72 years and 8 months. Buried at North Monroe beside her two Bonnett sons. Children (by her 1st m.): (1 and 2) Sewell, d. May 9, 1863, ged 25; and Dallas Bonnett, who d. in Monroe of tuberculosis contracted in army life during the Civil War. Dallas d. Oct 5, 1870, aged 24. (3) Edward Bonnett, d. Bradford, Mass 1921; m. into the Gammell family, q.v.; (4) Arthur J. Bonnett living in Medford Mass, m1) Mattie Gonyier, m2d Allie Frye of Monroe, one son living, the Bonnett family lived in Barnet some years. TURNER FAMILY BY 2nd marriage; (6) Gardner Turner m. Lucy, dau of Samuel Moore of Monroe. Two children, Earl Turner and Nannie Turner who m. Raymond Brooks of Brattleboro VT; (7) Nettie TUrner, m. Rev.
