RECENT & PAST NEWS OF INTEREST IN MERRIMACK, NH

March - July 2011: EXIT 11 BRIDGE NAMED FOR CORPORAL TIMOTHY GIBSON

On March 4th, the NH House approved a bill to name an F.E. Everett Turnpike Bridge in honor of slain Marine Corporal Timothy Gibson of Merrimack.

On July 24, 2011 a ceremony was held in Gibson Park, amid hundreds of friends, family and supporters as the bill became a reality. Corporal Gibson's parents Tom and Elaine Gibson were present. The bridge spanning the highway at exit 11 will include a sign renaming the bridge for the fallen Marine who died in 2005 in a helicopter crash in Iraq.

A charity softball game was held the same day to raise money for a scholarship in Gibson's name.

Vietnam vet, Gary Gahan, and Rep. Jeanine Notter of Merrimack were instrumental in making this happen.

May 28, 2011: MERRIMACK NH ATV PARK NAMED FOR JON SIMEONE
On Saturday, May 28, 2011, the first anniversary of his accidental death, Jonathon Scott "Jon" Simeone's zest for life and riding was commemorated. The ATV park located off Lawrence Road near Merrimack's landfill was dedicated as the Jon Simeone Memorial Park in memory of that young man, who, a year ago, hit a deer while on his motorcycle and later died at Boston General Hospital.

Governor John Lynch was one of the speakers. Nearly 100 people attended including Jon's family, friends and two recipients of Jon's kidneys, Charles Zayat and Jeanette D'Souza.

ATV riders began using the trails in the 26-acre town-owned park since about 2005, and it has been maintained by New Hampshire Right Riders ATV club.
