John McDuffee, son of John & Martha (Mansfield) McDuffee, was b. abt 1690 in Londonderry, Ulster County, Ireland and d. abt 1752 in Rochester, Strafford, Co. NH. He is bured at Haven Hill Cemetery in Rochester, Strafford Co. NH. He married about 1727 in Boston, Suffolk Co. MA to Mary Jane ---. She b. 1693 in Boston, Suffolk Co. MA.

John McDuffee, a gallant officer in the old French and Revolutionary wars, lieutenant-colonel in Colonel Poor's regiment--who, nevery marrying, adopted his brother Daniel's son John, and eventually made him his heir. John McDuffee, the colonel's heir was a farmer in good circumstances, married Abigail Torr, daughter of Simon and Sarah (Ham) Torr, and was the father of John McDuffee, the subject of this sketch [page 368, History of the town of Rochester NH]

****SECOND GENERATION*****

Matthew McDuffee was born in Strafford Co. NH (prob Dover or Rochester) c 1720-30. Co. NH [note: Matthew, son of John MacSovy, baptied 23 March 1731 in Dover First Church]When a young man he moved to Londonderry NH where he m1) Nancy Aiken, who died leaving one child. He married 2d) Susannah Morrison of Londonderry NH by whom he has six children, the first two b. in Londonderry NH. In 1760 he removed to Bedford NH and settled on the homestead, which was occupied by his descendants for 120 years. It was (about 1903) occupied by Eddy W. Stevens. Here he farmed and kept a store. He d. 15 Apr 1799, aged 79 and his wife Susannah d. 9 Dec 1799 age 69. Date and place of first mention of residence in the New World. Extracted from several sources, mainly "New Hampshire Provincial Deeds, 1641-1771," which is on microfilm at the New Hampshire Historical Society.

****THIRD GENERATION*****

William McDuffee/McAfee, son of Matthew McDuffee, was born 1758; he changed the spelling of his name from McDuffee to the earlier form of McAfee. He married Elizabeth Boise, dau of Capt. Thomas and Ann Boise (she b. 1762) who came to Bedford NH from the North of Ireland. They lived on the old homestead, where he d. 22 May 1806, aged 48 and his wife d. 1 Apr 1853, aged 91. In 1794 and 1795 William and David McAfee received licenses from the town to mix and sell liquor [p. 260, "History of Bedford NH"]

David McDuffee/McAfee, son of Matthew & Susannah (Morrison) McDuffee/McAfee, b. 1770; m. 27 May 1798 in Merrimack NH to Mary/Polly McAllaster, dau of William and Jerusha (Spofford) McAllaster. [Merrimack NH records show marriage of David McAffie to Polly McAlister of Bedford NH on that date]. She was b. 30 Aug 1777. He died 3 April 1809 and Polly m2d) 24 Jan 1811 to Adam Gilmore of Bedford NH.

Samuel McAfee, son of William & Elizabeth (Boise) McAfee of Bedford NH, was b. 9 April 1793; he married Catherine Holmes, daughter of Lieut. John & Susanna (Allison) Holmes, b in 1792 in Londonderry NH. They lived on the old homestead in Bedford NH. He died 5/8 November 1855, aged 72 years, 7 months. She d. 18/19 Feb 1871, aged 78 years.

4. John Holmes McAfee, b. 27 Sep 1820 Bedford NH; m. 24 Feb 1853 Sophia R. Kittredge of Merrimack NH, dau of Eri Kittredge. He was a farmer and bricklayer residing in the southern part of Bedford NH. He d. in Bedford NH 19 June 1878, age 57 yrs 8 mo 22 days. She d. 17 June 1878, aged 47 yrs 9 mo, 14 days. In 1850 living in Bedford NH in household of Jonathan James, his occupation brickmaker.
5. Jane H. McAfee, b. 2 July 1823 Bedford NH; m. 11 Nov 1852 Eri Kittredge, Jr. of Merrimack NH, son of Eri Kittredge; res. Merrimack NH; she he d. of pneumonia 19 Feb 1891. She d. 7 Dec 1896. They had one child, William Frank Kittredge, b. 8 Sep 1855, d. 16 Feb 1891 unmarried.
6. +Catherine McAfee, b. 22 May 1825 in Bedford H; m 14 Nov 1850 Joseph Kittredge of Merrimack NH, and resided in Merrimack NH.

John McAfee, son of William & Elizabeth (Boise) McDuffee/McAfee, b. 1788; m1) Sally Wallace who died, and he m2) Mary Gilcreast of Goffstown, NH. When in Bedford NH he resided on the place owned in 1901 by Lyman Kinson, but later removed to Lebanon NH where he d. In 1850 census he is living in Middle Fork of the American River, El Dorado, California.

David McAfee, son of William & Elizabeth (Boise) McDuffee/McAfee, b. prob betw 1795-1802; he married 23 Feb 1824 to Sarah K. Darrah, dau of James and Submit (Atwood) Darrah. She b. abt 1802 They resided in Bedford NH where Miss Martha Woodbury was living in 1901. After his death (by 1850) Sarah K. married 2) Abner Chase Darrah of Merrimack NH, son of Robert K. & Polly (Walker) Darrah.

She b. 15 Aug 1823. They lived on the old homestead in Bedford NH until the death of his wife, when it passed out of the family, having been in the McDuffee-McAfee name 120 years. he d. 9 Apr 1887. His wife d. 19 June 1880.

William McAfee, son of Samuel & Catherine (Holmes) McAfee, was b. 20 Dec 1816; m 16 March 1865 to Orline M. Flint of Bedford NH, dau of William and Mary (Farley) Flint [see Bedford NH genealogy for FLINT family. She was b. 10 oct 1836. They resided in Merrimack, later removing to Bedford NH. In early life he was engaged in boating on the Merrimack River, and it was in his boat that the first cloth woven in Manchester mills was conveyed to Boston. In 1852 he went to California and for eight years was engaged in gold mining. In the spring of 1868 he returned to Bedford and located on a farm in the west part of the town where he resided until his death, 24 June 1902.

Adam McAfee, son of Samuel & Catherine (Holmes) McAfee, b. Bedford NH 29 Sep 1818; m1) 19 Sep 1847 to Elizabeth R. Brooks of Putney VT and lived in Newburyport MA and Boston MA. She d. at E. ****SIXTH GENERATION*****

Charles A. McAfee, son of Alfred & Nancy P.B. (Shepard) McAfee, b. April 1855; he m. 27 Nov 1879 in Bedford NH to Susie Drucker of Amherst NH and resided in Hudson NH. In Hudson he owned land that was originally settled on by an early settler named Mr. Cross. In 1901 He was Master of the Hudson Grange, and in 1895 he was present when the Hudson Lodge, No 94 Oddfellows was created. In 1895 Mrs. Susie McAfee was one of the original petitioners in Hudson NH to form the Echo Rebekah Lodge (p. 481 History of Hudson NH).

In 1917 living at 393 Federal Street in Freenfield MA, occupation gage maker, Greenfield Tap & Die Corp., married, medical issues "ruptured, at work on government orders." 1942 Draft Registration card, same birth date, residing 48 Proctor Street, Worcester MA, nok: Mrs. Nellie McAfee, working for Norton Company. He married by 1919 to Nellie M. Weston, daughter of Alvin and Emma (Healy) Weston. He died February 1960 in Worcester MA. She died April 1962 (see obituaries below).

CARL A. McAFEE Sr. OBITUARY >> Worcester Mass February 27, 1960
Carl A. McAfee Sr., 72 years of age, died suddenly at his home, 48 Proctor Street, yesterday morning while shoveling snow. A resident of this city for 40 years, he was a retired machinist of the Norton Company. He was born in Londonderry NH May 14, 1887, son of the late Charles A. and Susie E. (Drucker) McAfee.
He leaves his wife, Mrs. Nellie M. (Weston) McAfee, one daughter, Mrs. Ina Ferrantino, both of Worcester; one son, Carl A. McAfee Jr. of Northboro; seven grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. Calling hours at at the Johnson funeral home, 129 Lincoln Street, Saturday and Sunday from 7 to 9 pm.

MRS. NELLIE M. McAFEE. OBITUARY. Word has been received here of the death of Mrs. Nellie M. (Weston) McAfee, 74 of 48 Proctor Street, Worcester, and widow of Carl McAfee, in that city yesterday. She was born in Goffs Falls, daughter of Alvin and Emma (Healy) Weston. Her survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Ina Serrantino of Worcester, a son, Carl A. McAfee of Northboro Mass; a sister, Mrs. Jelena Knox of Wells, ME, eight grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be held Monday afternoon at 2 in the Johnson funeral home, 129 Lincoln St., Worcester.
